Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

Duration: 4 Years,  Intake: Mar


If you are inspired to teach young children, Deakin’s Bachelor of Early Childhood Education provides you with the opportunity to explore early childhood education curriculum theories and pedagogies, child development, health and wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, professional studies as well as teaching and learning in discipline areas of literacy, mathematics, science and the arts.

You’ll undertake professional placements through Deakin’s Professional Experience Program gaining both practical knowledge and skills to teach children aged birth to 5 years. By experiencing learning across a range of early childhood settings, you will graduate equipped with the confidence and aptitude to meet the significant growth of the Australian early childhood education sector. 

Bachelor of Early Childhood and Primary Education

Bachelor of Health and Physical Education

Duration: 4 Years,  Intake: Mar


Prepare for a career in secondary health and physical education and gain hands-on practical teaching experience. Explore applied sports science, biomechanics, exercise physiology and more.

Develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to become a qualified secondary school health and physical education teacher with Deakin’s Bachelor of Health and Physical Education. Discover how to create safe, inclusive and engaging learning environments to provide experiences that support lifelong health and physical activity.

You will explore areas including applied sports science, biomechanics, motor learning and development and discover the science and art of movement education and performance skills through mediums like dance and gymnastics. Master of Teaching (Primary)

Ready to become a highly sought-after primary school teacher with a holistic understanding of how young people learn and make sense of the world?

The Master of Teaching (Primary) is infused with practical learning. With a focus on dynamic skills and communication, you’ll graduate classroom-ready; a finely tuned educator and leader with a set of adaptable techniques.

A career in education provides flexibility, variety and security. Learn first-hand from highly experienced and passionate teachers who understand the importance of recognising all students as people first.

Discover how to shape teacher/student relationships to ensure students build positive connections with their peers, their school and themselves. Gain the critical knowledge required for modern-day digital classrooms, engaging with topics such as diversity and inclusion, teacher inquiry, context and leading-edge research, coupled with culturally relevant approaches to teaching.

At Deakin you’ll also collaborate with early childhood educators, primary and secondary teachers. This, combined with at least 60-days of professional placement and your completion of a Deakin Teaching Performance Assessment (DTPA), benchmarked against national standards, means you’ll be set for success in the classroom anywhere in Australia and beyond.


Master of Education (Leadership and Management)

Duration:2 Years Intakes:Mar, Nov

This course is designed for current and aspiring leaders in education. Whether you’re already in a leadership role or preparing to take the next step, enhance your career options with Deakin’s Master of Education (Leadership and Management).

The leadership of education has become a complex affair in contemporary society. Deakin’s Master of Education (Leadership and Management) explores the responsibilities of those involved in leading and managing education institutions and the learning processes within them.

Delivered entirely online through Deakin’s Cloud Campus, the course maintains a strong focus on real-world opportunities and challenges in education leadership. Through live video conferences, video content and interactive discussion boards, you’ll delve into current social justice discourse and develop high-level critical thinking and evaluative skills. Each assessment task enables you to translate your knowledge and learnings into practice, preparing you to lead successfully in periods of rapid and significant change.

As a direct pathway to PhD study, you’ll have the opportunity to develop foundational research skills and a highly-engaged network of academic peers. Using data and insights from Deakin’s innovative educational research, you’ll analyse the driving factors of policy and practice in current and future-state education in Australia and around the world.

While the course curriculum focuses primarily on schools, the base ideas apply equally to other learning organisations and those who work within them.

Master of Education (Leadership and Management)

Duration:1.5 Years Intakes:Mar, Nov

Deakin’s Master of Education will give you an understanding of relevant education issues, as well as high-level critical and evaluative skills.

Graduates of this course will possess an understanding of contemporary education issues and discourses; have high-level critical and evaluative skills; will be able to translate into practice their experiences and understandings of the program; and will have demonstrated their ability to undertake educational research projects.

Mater of Teaching (Early Childhood)

Duration:2 Years Intakes:Mar, Nov

Approved by ACECQA as an early childhood teaching qualification in Australia and graduates also eligible for registration as early childhood teachers with VIT

The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) course is a professionally accredited initial teacher education course that prepares graduates for employment in early childhood teaching, along with a range of other education-related fields.

The course includes core interdisciplinary curriculum and pedagogy subjects that focus on education birth to 5-years. As Australia is in the midst of significant growth in the early childhood education sector, the Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) has been developed to address the increased demand for highly skilled and qualified early childhood educators.
