What to expect while studying at New Zealand as a Muslim student?

If you think being a Muslim in a foreign country will put you at a disadvantage, you might be wrong all these while. In New Zealand, you are more than welcomed by the people there.

To gain a deeper insight about a Muslim students’ experience at New Zealand , we took Arina Aizal’s experience in University of Otago as an example.

What’s good about being in New Zealand is that most Universities are compassionate of Muslim students’ needs. She stated at University of Otago, they prepare a Muslim prayer room that can ease Muslim students to pray anytime, especially after a long hectic day.

Having meals at foreign countries can prove to be difficult for Muslims as not there are not many halal options but put those worries away when you’re there. That’s cause there are a variety of halal choices around town and also campuses with the halal sign.

But if you prefer to have warm comfort food and don’t mind the hassle of having to cook, halal meat can be easily found at the supermarkets. (Now a little tip for you) Simply cooking some Malaysian dishes can help cure your home sicknesses.

Also, get ready to expand your social cycle with other Muslims while being active in Muslim University Students’ Association (MUSA), one of the student bodies at University of Otago. There, you can learn the diasporic community and their backgrounds that can further enhance your knowledge about other cultures in the world. You can choose to participate actively in program during Islamic Awareness Week, to promote the awareness of your Muslim religion.

As for Aina, she felt blessed with the experience she gained at University of Otago. Here's the link to the original article - https://www.studyinnewzealand.govt.nz/blog/being-a-muslim-student-in-new-zealand/
